Last autumn we were contacted by our friends at Beavertown Brewery who wanted to experiment with adding wine yeasts to their beers and were looking for London grapes to add to their London brews. They joined us for the harvest of our Pinot Noir and then followed the grapes from the vineyard to the winery at Davenport Vineyards.
They waited for the grapes to be pressed and collected 400 kilos of the discarded red grape skins which they took back to their Tottenham based brewery to add to one of their sour beer fermentations.
Six months later and the beer is ready and bottled. The beer has an inviting rubyesque colour. The nose is fresh with hints of raspberry, strawberry and red currants. The flavour is crisp and tart, there is loads of strawberry, rhubarb and red currants. The finish is nice and dry with a distinct character of lingonberry. Beer? Rosé? No, it's Brosé! Available online from Beavertown Brewery and from the Forty Hall Farm shop.
