We're thrilled that our new release, London Brut 2023, has been awarded an Independent English Wine Award silver medal.
2023 was a bumper year for yield and quality of the grapes, and they were pretty spotless. Good grapes make good wines and we also have a great winemaker in Will Davenport, who was able to create this delicious winner with our organic Chardonnay. Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
Although the wine was harvested and pressed two and half years ago, this is fairly youthful for a traditional method sparkling wine, having been disgorged at the beginning of the year. To be receiving an award already, is a mark of the the quality, and it will keep on improving in the bottle.
The judges noted that it was...
"A clean and attractive sparkling wine with good aromatic complexity and a composed, characterful style. The nose shows very good intensity and quality, offering notes of red and green apple, pear and subtle lees-derived characters of bread crust and light toffee. Several judges appreciated the savoury edge and understated complexity, with some comparisons drawn to a more grower Champagne-inspired style.
On the palate, the wine is fresh and approachable, with orchard fruit and citrus flavours supported by lively acidity and a gentle lees influence. The wine shows good precision and brightness, with an appealing balance between fruit and structure. The palate is slightly more restrained than the nose suggests, favouring elegance and freshness over weight."
