Forty Hall Vineyard is a community led-social enterprise, which grows grapes on ten acres of organically managed vineyard at Forty Hall Farm in Enfield, north London. As a multi award-winning, community-led, horticultural social enterprise, it delivers skills development, health and social benefits to local people. FHV offers exciting opportunities for safe, supported volunteering in a beautiful and unique outdoor setting. The services are open to all members of the community, but we particularly encourage people with mild to moderate mental health support needs to participate.

The Flourish Project, led by Forty Hall Vineyard and funded by The Big Lottery Fund, ensures that the benefits of volunteering at Forty Hall Farm and Vineyard are open to all and are accessible to vulnerable adults in particular.  Ecotherapists offer support at weekly volunteering sessions throughout the year along with  opportunities to try new skills and wellbeing activities such as mindfulness, yoga, art and cooking 

The Role

Contract: FHV is looking for a freelance subcontractor (registered self-employed with HMRC) for 12 months (which may be extended depending on funding)

Rate: £14 per hour

Hours: Average of 30 hours a month including:

· Monday volunteer session 9am – 12.30pm

· 2 Sunday volunteer sessions per month 9.30am – 1pm

· Extra hours for outreach, events, meetings, evaluation/reporting, training, etc. (average 4 hours)

Location: Volunteer support sessions on site at the vineyard at Forty Hall Farm, Enfield EN2 9HA. Other activity at the job-holder’s discretion

Responsible to: Forty Hall Vineyard Head of Operations

Main responsibilities

1. Supporting volunteers at vineyard sessions
· Work with FHV ecotherapist to ensure the wellbeing and support of all Forty Hall Vineyard volunteers, particularly those with mental health support needs
· Welcome new volunteers and provide a full induction
· Alongside ecotherapist and volunteer coordinator, assess volunteer needs, interests and capabilities so that vineyard tasks can be appropriately assigned
· Help any volunteers who may require support to carry out the tasks for that session
· Assist the Volunteer Team Leader in setting up and closing the session
2. Liaise with referrers and recruiting new volunteers
· Assist senior ecotherapist with referral process for new volunteers to the ecotherapy project liaising with a variety of external organisations
· Work with ecotherapist to develop relationships with local statutory and voluntary mental health services, and other external bodies as required to ensure that FHV meets its targets for referrals.
· Work alongside the Volunteer Co-ordinator to support all new and current FHV
volunteers
3. Monitoring and evaluation
· Support the senior ecotherapist and Volunteer Co-ordinator as required in the monitoring and evaluation requirements to track our success in meeting our aims of improving mental health and wellbeing as well as funding reporting requirements.
4. Other activities
· From time to time you may work with other contractors and staff to support the planning and running of community days or visiting groups
· You may visit partnership organisations, give informal presentations and run information stalls.
· You may also have the opportunity to deliver occasional workshops/trainings, according to your skills and interests

 

Person Specification

Experience and knowledge

 We are looking for applicants with experience of working with mental health or other support needs, ideally gained in horticultural outdoor setting. You will have a good understanding of mental health issues gained through training or personal experience and an interest in the benefits of ecotherapy for mental wellbeing.

Candidates will have worked with diverse communities and have an understanding and commitment to equality and diversity. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the vineyard and we would like to hear from candidates who have a good understanding of and/ or who have worked with volunteer projects.

Skills and abilities

We are looking for applicants with excellent communication skills and who are able to be a ‘listening ear’ for all volunteers in particular those with mental health needs. You will have the resilience and adaptability to deal with a varied working environment and are able to work confidently and flexibly through periods of change and development.

 As part of a small team of contractors and staff you will have contact with volunteers, stakeholders, board members and external agencies and will be able to maintain a professional attitude and boundaries in your working relationships. Whilst not essential, it would be very helpful to have experience of Microsoft Office and social media.
