Our wine

Photo by Anne-Marie SandersonForty Hall Vineyard’s two single varietal wines, the  2015 Ortega and the 2015 Bacchus, received critical acclaim from leading wine critic  Matthew Jukes who selected both wines in his 2016 English Wine Compendium.  He described the wines as: incredibly impressive debut releases from this amazing project, brimming with crunchy citrus fruit and mouth-watering vitality.  The 2015 Ortega is  still available, whilst stocks last, from our ‘cellar door’ at the Forty Hall Farm Shop (open Wed, Sat & Sun 11am – 4.00pm).

FHV 2014 Vintage London Sparkling Brut

Still available in limited supply, this excellent vintage has been extremely popular and will be on taste at the Real Wine Fair in May 2017.  This vintage  has a beautifully balanced palate with good rounded fruit. It is delicate and very fresh with a light texture, soft acidity, hints of lemons, ripe apples and a touch of toastiness. Absolutely delicious now and will continue to develop well for a few years.

2017 Wine releases

We are looking forward to launching our 2016 Ortega at the Real Wine Fair in May 2017.  We will also be showing the 2013 & 2014 Vintages of our London Sparkling Brut in advance  of the much anticipated release this autumn of our 2015 Vintage sparkling wine.  Though still a limited release, our increased production levels will enable us to sell this vintage to the public for the first time.

Our wine production

We are committed to making the best quality, organic English wines, which truly reflect the distinctive character of our organically grown grapes. Each hand picked harvest is unique and forms its own vintage.

We are currently producing two still white varietal wines: a Bacchus and an Ortega. We also produce a sparkling white wine made in the traditional Champagne method, with all the fermentation taking place naturally in the bottle. All of our wines are currently dry, but as our yields grow we will expand our portfolio to offer a wider range, possibly including off-dry and rose wines.

Who makes the wine?
Our winemaker,Will Davenport who runs Davenport Vineyards in Kent, is the first and only winemaker in the UK to win gold medals and commendations every year since 2009 for wine made from organic grapes.  In 2014 he was awarded a gold medal for “Most Outstanding Sparkling Wine” in the English Wine Awards. Using modern equipment, but traditional methods, he leaves the grapes to speak for themselves.

FHV 2015 Ortega

The 2015 Ortega is a dry white wine with aromas of peach and whitecurrant. It has a light, fresh feel and has a touch of residual sugar which lift the fruit flavours.

FHV 2015 Bacchus

The 2015 Bacchus is an aromatic white wine showing citrus and floral notes; it has an earthy mineral style and good mouthfeel. This and the Ortega both show complexity and character which will develop over the next two years.

FHV 2014 Ortega-Bacchus 

Made with 30% Bacchus grapes, this 2014 vintage has wonderful grapefruit and elderflower aromas with fresh, mineral flavours.

2013 Vintage FHV London Sparkling Brut

Believed to be London’s first ever sparkling wine,Our first release London Sparkling Brut is made in the traditional Champagne method from organically grown Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay grapes.  The 2013 Vintage was recently commended in the prestigious 2016 Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships.  This vintage is no longer available to buy, but will be on taste at the Real Wine Fair in May 2017.
